Boston Children’s Hospital (MA, USA) is welcoming stakeholders from around the world to its Global Pediatric Innovation Summit + Awards at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston on October 30–31, 2014. “Taking on Tomorrow 2014” builds on the synergy of Boston Children’s inaugural National Pediatric Innovation Summit + Awards and will further explore unmet needs in pediatrics, solve problems, and identify opportunities in the pediatric healthcare space.

Taking on Tomorrow 2014 panel topics will include: cancer genomics, predictive analytics and big data, rare diseases and the path to clinic, innovation acceleration, mobile and digital health, and top challenges and opportunities in pediatrics (a CEO panel).

Taking on Tomorrow will make two awards: a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing a clinician or researcher who has devoted her career to accelerating innovation in pediatrics, and a Rising Star Award for an emerging innovator whose work shows transformative promise. To nominate a colleague, please visit the Boston Children’s Innovation Summit site.

To encourage maximum international participation in this year’s Summit, Boston Children’s will award two scholarships to an international clinician, researcher or investor interested in this year’s Summit topics. The award will defray the costs of registration, airfare and hotel accommodations. It also includes a personalized tour of Boston Children’s and a meeting with representatives from Boston Children’s International Health Services.

Information and applications can be found online at the Boston Children’s Innovation Summit site. All applications must be received no later than July 31, 2014. Scholarship recipients will be notified by August 29, 2014.

This year Boston Children’s invites inventors and innovators to dive into our Innovation Tank, pitching their concept to a panel of clinicians and venture capitalists. For more information or to apply, please visit the Boston Children’s Innovation Summit site.

Boston Children’s inaugural National Pediatric Innovation Summit + Awards in September 2013 drew a vibrant mix of more than 400 professionals from as far away as Israel and China to discuss some of pediatric medicine’s toughest challenges. Participants included clinicians, hospital CEOs, scientists, engineers, policy professionals, health care IT executives, investors and leaders from the technology, device, pharmaceutical, and biotech industries. In follow-up surveys, 97 percent felt the Summit advanced thinking in pediatric innovation, and more than 80 percent made new business or social connections.
