UT Southwestern to Open New Hospital in Dallas

The University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, TX, USA) is set to inaugurate a new hospital, built at a cost of USD 800 million.

The new William P Clements Jr University Hospital will replace the 50 year-old St. Paul University Hospital in December 2014. The 12-floor, 460-bed features 40 emergency treatment rooms, 24 surgical suites, 12 procedure rooms, 72 adult intensive care unit (ICU) rooms, 16 labor and delivery rooms, 30 neonatal intensive care unit (ICU) rooms and three obstetrics specialty, as well as six endoscopy suites. A professionally staffed patient and family resource center will also be available.


Other services and facilities include two nuclear medicine rooms, four computerized tomography (CT) suites, two magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suites, and six X-ray suites. The hospital is named in honor of former two-term Texas governor William “Bill” Clements, who died in 2011, leaving a contribution of USD 100 million towards the development of the facility. The donation was the largest single contribution in UT Southwestern history.

It will help ensure that we remain at the forefront of the most advanced medical breakthroughs and patient care in the country,” said Daniel Podolsky, MD, president of UT Southwestern. “The hospital is a vehicle for our physicians, nurses, and staff to provide the best possible care and experience for patients by bringing together our three-part mission: excellence in patient care, the education and training of current and future caregivers, and research that improves the care and health of people everywhere.”

UT Southwestern medical center is world-renowned for research, teaching, and the quality of clinical care its faculty provides. It also has created scientific partnerships with UT Dallas and UT Arlington.
