The Sheikh Khalifa Ben Zayed Al-Nahyane Hospital (Casablanca, Morocco), Morocco’s largest private hospital, has opened its doors.

The hospital, a gift from the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (KBZF; Abu Dhabi, UAE), on behalf of the people of the UAE to the people of Morocco, is intended to provide a best-in-class healthcare facility that can deliver advanced healthcare services and prompt, appropriate and cost and time effective standards of healthcare. The hospital has 205 beds, 46 consulting rooms, eight operating rooms (ORs), oncology and cardiac care units, a special burns unit, and women’s and children’s department inclusive of pediatrics and maternity.

The hospital is also seeking to become a major player in medical research and staff training, and has forged a partnership with the Mohammad VI University for Health Science, a multidisciplinary site under construction which will comprise four training institutions: a medical school, a graduate school of public health and management of health systems, a school of nursing and health techniques, and a graduate school of biomedical engineering. The university will provide a platform for practical training and student development, as well as a hub for medical research between Europe and Africa.

Previous hospital projects of KBZF include a 250-bed hospital in Muzaffarabad (Pakistan), which replaced the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) destroyed by an earthquake, and a similar one in Rawalakot (Pakistan). KBZF has also pledged USD 150 million to the MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX, USA) to establish a cancer treatment clinic, and will support the construction of the Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore, MD, USA) new cardiovascular and critical care tower (also to be named after Sheikh Zayed).

The inauguration ceremony was carried out jointly by H.H. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and King Mohammad of Morocco.
