A new, luxuriously appointed retreat offers an innovative and clinical approach to insomnia with an integrated wellness, nutritional, and social program.

The Sleep Retreat (Warnford, United Kingdom) is based in a rural 14th century country house set in 70 acres of sculpted grounds, and offers a “Four Pillars” program for treating insomnia and sleep-related problems. The four pillars include clinical, evidence based cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBTI) in both one-on-one and group sessions, equipping guests with the behavioral and psychological techniques they need for improved, long-term sleep. The techniques were developed based on years of research and practice by sleep experts worldwide.

The second pillar includes wellness disciplines, such as exercise, yoga, massages, walks in the countryside, sauna, cycling, and many other activities, including aromatherapy sessions. Guests are provided with a personalized exercise plan, with each element designed with sleep in mind, and are encouraged to explore the many cycling or walking trails in the private estate. There are also two tennis courts and a nine-hole golf course.

The third pillar includes nutritional sleep-promoting menus that include locally grown, organic ingredients containing high amounts of tryptophan such as yogurt, milk, oats, bananas, peanuts, and tuna. The fourth pillar includes social interactions and activities such as art and music for both stimulation and relaxation. The combination of the four pillars help sleep experts guide the guests through the program and arm them with the tools and strategy they need to get back on a sleep schedule and to experience natural good sleep.

“Sleep is fundamental to all of our health – it has been overlooked for too long and people (some very high profile people) that say that sleep is not important are doing enormous damage, not just to themselves,” said Sleep Retreat founder Jonathan Grant. “We offer a combination of an evidence based approach to CBTI, along with wellness, social and nutrition programs. These elements set in the quite stunning surroundings of Riversdown House in Hampshire and delivered both individually and as part of a group, have proved to be very effective and in many cases life changing.”
