Sony Professional Solutions Europe (Basingstoke, London, UK) showcased its latest end-to-end 4K3D and 4K surgical imaging solutions and technologies at MEDICA 2019, which took place from 18-21 November in Düsseldorf, Germany. The MEDICA is the world's largest medical trade fair for medical technology, electromedical equipment, laboratory equipment, diagnostics and pharmaceuticals. More than 5,000 exhibitors from 70 countries presented their newest products and ideas at MEDICA which also drew 120,000 trade visitors from over 170 countries.

With over 25 years as a global leader in medical technology innovation, Sony offers a wide range of medical applications such as ultrasound, printing, diagnostic radiological and surgical imaging. At MEDICA 2019, Sony unveiled its latest line-up of IP technologies supporting 4K and 4K3D that enhance hospitals’ imaging workflow. For the first time in Europe, visitors to Sony’s booth at this year’s MEDICA were able to experience the more flexible, more powerful next generation NUCLeUS smart IP imaging platform that is delivering unprecedented hospital efficiency, as well as the first 4K HDR surgical monitor and HDR medical camera from Sony.

For the first time, Sony demonstrated its recently-announced more user-friendly workflow version of its open, vendor neutral and future proof IP imaging platform, NUCLeUS. Aimed at improving imaging workflow to help deliver better outcomes for patients, the new version brings 4K support, compatibility with copper or fiber infrastructure as well as the ability to manage and support uncompressed and compressed image quality. As a smart, flexible, easy and scalable IP imaging platform with unlimited 4K, NUCLeUS is revolutionizing image management by offering a new level of efficiency and uncompromised image quality to hospitals. By enabling video content to be available anywhere and everywhere, the future-proofed software can be introduced seamlessly into any existing IP infrastructure to maximize cost efficiency through networked management.

At MEDICA 2019, Sony demonstrated the three imaging workflows which are available in today’s ORs – from image capture and visualization to recording and documentation. With the widest range of 4K surgical imaging devices, Sony displayed its expanding line-up of 4K advanced visualization for surgical imaging in the OR, including its latest 4K monitors, such as the LMD-X2700MD and LMD-X2705MD, that enable HD to 4K upscaling. Sony also presented 4K3D surgical imaging as the ultimate visualization available in modern ORs, providing surgical certainty and improved spatial visualization for endoscopic, robotic and microscopic surgeries. With 4K3D vision upscaling from HD3D to 4K3D, surgeons are met with the ultimate picture through its products, including the LMD-X550MT, LMD-X310MT surgical monitors and HVO-3300MT 3D surgical recorder. For hospitals looking for entry-level to high-end visualization, recording and printing in the OR, Sony displayed its HD surgical imaging solutions which allow clinical staff to view with confidence and focus on their tasks. Used for advanced visualization for any type of endoscopic/laparoscopic or microsurgical procedure, Sony showed a range of solutions which allow surgeons and clinical staff to capture, view, document and share Full HD images in high quality.

At MEDICA, Sony showcased its recently-launched HDR medical devices, including two 4K HDR surgical monitors (LMD-X2705MD and LMD-X2700MD) and the MCC-1000MD Full HD/HDR video camera suitable for surgical microscopes and delivers exceptional picture quality plus intuitive operation and flexible integration for today’s clinical environments. Sony also presented its wide portfolio of medical printers and recorders. Aiming to simplify and expand the use of printers in ultrasound as well as inside the OR, Sony demonstrated its space-saving, fast and efficient wireless printing solutions as well as DC-powered printers facilitating easier modality printer integration. Alongside other hybrid OR and HD surgical solutions, the Sony HVO-4000MT 4K3D medical-grade video recorder was also on display at MEDICA with its improved firmware adding DICOM modality worklist support as well as an HD input.
