Partnership to Develop New Prostate Cancer Diagnostic

Under an agreement to develop new tools for diagnosing prostate cancer, DakoCytomation (Copenhagen, Denmark) has received a worldwide license for the commercial use of an antibody of Northwest Therapeutics (Bothell, WA, USA) that recognizes the key prostate cancer marker, prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA).

PSMA is a glycoprotein expressed in virtually all prostate cancers that will be useful in diagnosing and confirming prostate cancer and may also be useful as a marker for angiogenesis in other cancers. DykoCytomation currently offers tissue-staining antibodies specific to two other well-established prostate cancer markers: prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and prostate-specific acid phosphatase (PAP). In addition, the company offers three serum tests for PSA.
