Marker for Multiple Myeloma Oncogene

A monoclonal mouse antibody specific for the human multiple myeloma oncogene 1 (MUM1) is now available to laboratories.

This antibody is a tool for identifying surviving centrocytes and their progeny, understanding B-cell histogenesis, and characterizing Hodgkin's and Reed-Sternberg cells of classic Hodgkin's disease. The antibody also has potential prognostic value since MUM1 expression correlates with clinical outcome in patients. Also, MUM1 will aid in correct tumor subclassification and should be included in routine diagnostic lymphoma marker panels, according to the developer, DakoCytomation (Copenhagen, Denmark).
