The first genetic testing center is being planned for the United Arab Emirates (UAR) and is expected to be located in Dubai.

The new facility will be set up by IMGM Laboratories GmbH (Martinsried, Germany), a spinoff of the department of chemistry at the University of Munich and one of Europe's leading laboratories specializing in DNA testing. IMGM says the new facility will enable doctors to individualize medicine for patients, as well as save lives by helping to prevent adverse drug reactions. No date has been fixed for the opening of the new center. In the meantime, IMGM has developed an Internet-based "DrugProfiler” database that can be accessed by doctors and pharmacists to find genetically caused adverse drug reactions.

"Adverse drug reactions may be related to genetic variants and mutations,” noted Dr. Hanns-Georg Klein, IMGM Laboratories. "Laboratory testing for individual genetic predisposition markers can help to predict drug reactions and help doctors to tailor medication and dosage to the patient.”
