Noninvasive Diagnostic Panel for Liver Fibrosis

A simple blood test is designed to aid in the detection of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C and help doctors differentiate the degree of fibrosis without a liver biopsy.

FibroSpect II, an enhanced version of the original test, eliminates indeterminate test results occasionally reported with the first-generation test and improves the ability to differentiate patients with and without significant liver fibrosis. The test is based on three extracellular matrix remodeling proteins utilizing a new algorithm and unique index, thereby providing doctors with more clinically useful information. FibroSpect II is the product of Prometheus Laboratories, Inc. (San Diego, CA, USA), a specialty pharmaceutical company.

"In chronic hepatitis C infection, liver biopsy has been the favored approach to evaluate the extent of liver fibrosis and help guide treatment decisions; however, it is expensive, associated with possible complications, and limited by sampling error and observer variability,” said Dr. F.
