Marker Shows Agressiveness of Squamous Cell Lesions

A monoclonal mouse antibody specific for the human laminin-5, gamma-2 chain is a new marker that can indicate the degree of aggressiveness found in squamous cell carcinomas.Posted on 10 Feb 2004
Squamous cell intraepithelial lesions of different origins may or may not progress to invasive carcinoma. Laminin-5, Gamma-2 Chain Antibody can be used to differentiate those squamous cell lesions with a high risk of progression from those lesions with a low risk of progression, thereby improving the diagnosis of patients. This is the first antibody to label expression of the laminin-5, gamma-2 chain protein in squamous cell lesions with a high risk of developing invasive growth.
The new marker is a useful adjunct to the existing panel of antibodies used for the testing of squamous cell neoplasia within the cervix, ano-genital, and head and neck regions. The antibody is the product of DakoCytomation (Copenhagen, Denmark), an in vitro diagnostic company specializing in the identification of cancer markers on tissue samples obtained from biopsies and surgery.
