Compact Automated Hematology Analyzer

A compact portable complete blood count (CBC) and three-part differential hematology analyzer has been developed for the clinical laboratory as well as the physician office market. The analyzer has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The new analyzer has the smallest footprint and smallest sample requirement of any hematology analyzer produced by Sysmex America, Inc. (Mundelein, IL, USA), which developed the new model. Sampling is done in a closed-tube environment to assure safety for the operator.

Called pocH-100i, the unit provides comparable results to the company's high-end systems. The red cells and platelets are measured utilizing the same hydrodynamic sheath flow technology as other Sysmex systems. The differential provides a true neutrophil count, which is important for diagnosis and ongoing monitoring of patient therapy. As with other Sysmex analyzers, the system utilizes only nonhazardous reagent systems.

"The Sysmex pocH-100i is a reliable and easy-to-operate system that has application for use in a satellite lab, clinic, or physician office lab (POL) setting,” said Charles Dahlgren, general lab manager at St. John's Regional Health Care in Springfield (MO, USA), and an evaluator for the FDA study. Sysmex America is a subsidiary of Sysmex Corp. (Kobe, Japan).
