About 40 assays are available on the system, including high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and other protein, serology, and therapeutic drug tests. Special features include the ability to append samples while the instrument is running and user-defined reagent (UDR) software that allows laboratories to configure the test menu to meet their particular requirements. Recently released UDRs include a Beta-2 microglobulin (ß2M) test application, which aids in the diagnosis of kidney disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Called Immage 800, the system is the product of Beckman Coulter (Fullerton, CA, USA; www.beckmancoulter.com).
The Immage 800 system's UDR functionality also allows users to flag antigen access, plot UDR data curves, perform single-point update calibrations, count available tests in a UDR cartridge, use existing buffers and diluents for UDRs, perform within-lot calibration, and enter reagent-specific information. Users can also display the history of the last four calibrations to ensure instrument reliability and performance, while the user-selectable default dilution allows users to preset an assay range and define specific measurement criteria for increased throughput.
The system features four on-board measurement methodologies: rate nephelometry, rate inhibition nephelometry, rate near-infrared particle immunoassay (NIPIA) and rate NIPIA inhibition.
