DNA Array to Detect Respiratory Pathogens

The first prototype of a DNA array that can detect the presence of a range of commonly occurring respiratory pathogens has been developed through a collaborative research and development program.Posted on 29 Apr 2004
The new array can detect influenza viruses, rhinoviruses, coronaviruses (including the severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, virus), RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and Chlamydia pneumoniae.
Once fully optimized, the panel will be made available for pathogen detection in clinical pathology laboratories and for disease surveillance and research. The array was developed through the efforts of CalbaTech, Inc. (Irvine, CA, USA) and the University of California, Irvine (USA). CalbaTech is a life sciences company providing products and platforms to the research market, for biotech and pharmaceutical companies, and academic institutions.
