Specifically, the kits identify the presence or absence of mutations in the P450-2C9 and P450-2C19 genes. These mutations are common in patients with atypical drug metabolism, which can lead to ADRs. The Tag-It Mutation Detection kits were developed by Tm Bioscience Corp. (Toronto, Canada; www.tmbioscience.com).
Scientists estimate that 90% of currently available prescription drugs are metabolized by P450-derived enzymes. The Tag-It suite of P450 kits is designed to provide a cost-effective, high-quality solution that provides laboratories with a predictive tool to evaluate possible ADRs. The 2C9 test provides simultaneous detection of five different mutations of Cytochrome P450 in a multiplex format, while the 2C19 test provides simultaneous detection of seven mutations in a multiplex format.
"These latest products, in concert with our already marketed Tag-It P450-2D6 mutation detection kit, provide clinical laboratories with the ability to efficiently and accurately test for 26 critical mutations affecting drug metabolism, which, we believe, will ultimately improve patient care,” said Craig Hines, CEO of Tm Bioscience.
