Alliance to Develop Blood Test for Ovarian Cancer

A collaboration to advance the final development of a blood test for the early detection of ovarian cancer has been announced by the North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Research Institute (Huntington, NY) and Correlogic Systems, Inc. (Bethesda, MD, USA).

Correlogic has pioneered the development and application of pattern recognition in disease detection and has developed a first test for ovarian cancer using the hidden patterns approach. The company's work is based on a new approach that looks for subtle changes in protein patterns in blood, rather than an increase in an individual biomarker. To identify these hidden patterns, the company employs artificial intelligence-based computer technology. Over the next two years, researchers will collect blood samples from several hundred women, and these samples will be immediately analyzed to validate the test and provide additional information that may help extend the clinical utility of the test.

"Our goal is to change the outcome of ovarian cancer for thousands of women diagnosed with this disease each year,” said Peter Levine, president of Correlogic Systems. "The collaboration with the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, with its powerful reach and expertise, will contribute importantly to that goal.”
