Bio-Rad to Acquire MJ GeneWorks

In a move that will add to the company's portfolio of instruments and consumables, Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. (Hercules, CA, USA) has agreed to acquire MJ GeneWorks, Inc. (Waltham, MA, USA) and its subsidiaries for about U.S.$47 million in cash plus the assumption of certain liabilities. Posted on 02 Aug 2004
MJ GeneWorks is the parent of MJ Research (also in Waltham), a biotechnology company specializing in thermal cycling instrumentation and reagents used to amplify DNA. MJ Research pioneered the use of Peltier-effect technology and has introduced a number of other innovations in the thermal-cycling field.
Bio-Rad Laboratories is a multinational manufacturer and distributor of clinical diagnostics and life science research products that serve more than 70,000 research and industry customers worldwide.
