Flexible, Seamless Automated LIS

A laboratory information system (LIS) can be configured to support the unique requirements of a number of laboratories in a system and still remain part of a larger integrated and standard LIS.

The system, called Molis, uses a programming language called MPL (Molis programming language) that allows software to be customized without negatively affecting the core system. This allows for a flexible, seamless system that meets the needs of all lab units. The system was developed by Sysmex America, Inc. (Mundelein, IL, USA).

Recently, Sysmex implemented a Molis laboratory information system for Esoterix, Inc. (Austin, TX, USA), whose operations include seven laboratory locations across the United States and Europe for oncology, endocrinology, allergy & asthma, coagulation, infectious disease, molecular genetics, and central safety testing. The implementation of Molis was completed in less than two years, replacing seven legacy information systems with Molis to provide one seamless, unified system. With Molis, the special needs and unique requirements of each laboratory could be preserved while still maintaining one overall application and database.

"This initiative has had a huge impact on our business as it has allowed us to now issue a single patient report and a single invoice, regardless of where a test was performed,” explained Darryl Goss, senior vice president of support services and chief information officer.
