Single Test Panel to Detect Six Respiratory Viruses

New analyte-specific reagents (ASRs) are designed to allow clinical reference laboratories to develop and validate a single test panel for detecting six of the most common respiratory viruses.

The gene-based viral ASRs will enable laboratories to develop a test for influenza A, influenza B, human parainfluenza 1, human parainfluenza 2, human parainfluenza 3, and respiratory syncytial virus A/B in a single panel. The ASRs also give labs the capability to develop a test that can detect dual infections, which formerly required additional time and tests.

The respiratory viral ASRs were developed by Nanogen (San Diego, CA, USA) and incorporate multiplexing technology developed by Prodesse, Inc. (Waukesha, WI, USA). The reagents on the recently introduced NanoChip 400 can provide clinical labs with an advanced microarray platform to develop gene-based tests that can generate results in one day versus culture-based tests that can take a week. Also, the ASRs can be validated by labs for use with their current sample preparation methodologies, streamlining workflow.
