Biomarker for Neurologic Disorders

Apolipoprotein J (apo-J) antibody is a biomarker that can help detect proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease, Down syndrome, transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, and other neurologic disorders.

Studies have shown that apo-J, also known as clusterin, plays an important role as a chaperone for beta amyloid protein, a key component in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Apo-J appears to influence structure and toxicity of beta amyloid as well as the accumulation of beta amyloid peptide in the brain. Apo-J is also implicated in prostate cancer, large cell lymphoma, and diabetes.
