Internet-Based Diagnostic Services

A new Internet-based remote program called Access enables laboratories to provide the quantitative diagnostic results necessary to prescribe appropriate cancer treatments for patients.

The idea was conceived and developed by ChromaVision (San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA) several years ago for community-based pathologist customers who lacked the capital or technical resources to implement the full ChromaVision imaging system (ACIS) in-house. The new program allows a broader spectrum of laboratories, including those without in-house tissue preparation or staining capability, to utilize the latest advances in disease analysis.

Many of the newest cancer drugs require a very accurate and quantitative characterization of each patient's individual tumor. The ACIS system and the images it provides to pathologists aid an objective analysis designed to be far more sensitive than manual methods that rely on the ability of the human eye. Web access also reduces costs, eliminating the expense of providing equipment to customers, thereby reducing capital expenses while still providing the latest in diagnostic imaging.

"We have a growing backlog of new accounts, anxious to begin service with the web-enabled Access program,” noted Ronald A. Andrews, Jr., CEO of ChromaVision. "This offering, in combination with additional services now available with our recently received laboratory license, should allow us to substantially grow laboratory service revenue in 2005.”
