Enhanced Immunoassay Platform

A high throughput diagnostic system now incorporates a new module for the preparation of test samples for autoimmune disease diagnostics. This module, called CARIS (carrier for assay reagents and immuno-samples), has received the CE mark.

The CARIS module, introduced at the 4th International Congress on Autoimmunity in Budapest (Hungary) in November 2004, fully automates the entire preparation process. This includes sample identification, dilution, dispensing, and wash steps. All the user has to do is to insert the reaction plate into the Fidis FPX system to begin high throughput analysis of the samples.

The modularity of the Fidis FPX platform means that laboratories can choose the modules they require. CARIS and Fidis FPX are the products of BMD (BioMedical Diagnostics, Marne-la-Vallee, France; www.bmd-net.com/bmd). The company has designed the system around the existing and forthcoming industry standards, allowing easy interfacing of test operations, immunofluorescence, multiplexing, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs).

New additions to the Fidis diagnostic system include Connective 10, which adds one more marker to the existing Connective 9 panel, a vasculitis panel, and cytokine panels that enable Fidis to be used for other applications in addition to those in the autoimmune area.
