Blood Test for Biomarkers of Alzheimer's

A collaborative study has identified patterns of proteins and peptides that distinguish Alzheimer's patients from those with no clinical signs of the disease, and these patterns can be identified by a simple blood test.

About two years ago, PerkinElmer (Boston, MA, USA) and the Alzheimer's Disease Center at Rush University Medical Center (Chicago, IL, USA; www.rush.edu) initiated a study on the proteomics of Alzheimer's disease, focused on identifying protein and gene targets involved in the onset and progression of Alzheimer's to enhance diagnostics and drug discovery. The study is among the first to describe a potential diagnostic test for the disease. The blood analysis was carried out by using PerkinElmer's Bioxpression biomarker platform that includes mass spectrometry and the proprietary Bamf technology of Predictive Diagnostics, Inc. (Vacaville, CA, USA).

In numerous studies, Predictive Diagnostics has demonstrated the capability of its Bamf technology to accurately diagnose cancers such as breast, lung, pancreatic, and prostate, as well as multiple sclerosis.
