Detection Kit to Aid Diagnosis of Lung Cancer

New data from an expanded comprehensive clinical study have demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity of a detection kit designed for the diagnosis of lung cancer. The data were presented at the World Biomarker Congress in May 2005 in Philadelphia (PA, USA).

The CellCorrect LAb detection kit was developed by CeMines, Inc. (Golden, CO, USA). The updated data also demonstrated the presence of diagnostically informative autoantibodies in the blood of breast, colon, and stomach cancer patients. The company has announced the filing of two patents claiming specific design and delivery of molecules that interfere with transcriptional mechanisms. CeMines believes this intellectual property will play a key role in the company's development of drugs to treat different types of cancer.

CellCorrect LAb detects altered autoimmunity and associated patterns of disease-related autoantibodies in the bloodstream. Extensive studies have demonstrated that specific and consistent patterns of certain antibodies have regularly proven their utility as composite biomarkers to characterize cancer, states CeMines, and can therefore be used as diagnostic tests for cancer. The company uses a proprietary bioinformatics-based statistical pattern-recognition application called Molecular Fingerprinting, which evaluates the patterns of certain antibodies in the profiles of cancer patients.
