Scientists around the world are invited to participate in a stain contest, sponsored by Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, MO, USA), a provider of biochemical and organic chemical products and kits used in scientific and genomic research.

The contest is intended to encourage interest in the field of pathology and the science of staining. Entries should be in the form of specimens on standard glass microscope slides, mounted with permanent mounting media and cover-slipped. There are three categories of submission: hematoxylin and eosin stains, special stains, and an open stain category. Submissions must be received by August 1, 2005. More details are available on Sigma-Aldrich's website.

"Whether histology is your profession or just a hobby, we invite you to enter your favorite slide to gain some well-deserved attention and possibly win valuable prizes,” explained Mark Frei, technical marketing specialist at Sigma-Aldrich. Contest winners will be announced at the 31st Annual National Society for Histotechnology Convention in Fort Lauderdale (FL, USA) on September 10, 2005. Micrographs of the winning entries will be posted on the Sigma-Aldrich website.
