A comprehensive range of tests for the detection of viral pathogens, including influenza types A and B, rotavirus, adenovirus, and astrovirus, are available from Oxoid.

The range, part of Oxoid's ProSpect line, includes microplate assays that are convenient and easy to use for the detection of viruses. They detect specific antigen directly from fecal specimens, offering highly sensitive and specific results within only two hours. Each ProSpect assay uses the same procedure and reagents, allowing several strips for different enteric pathogens to be set up and run simultaneously, whether for viral, bacterial, or parasitic pathogens.

Oxoid is also offering the Xpect rapid lateral flow test for the simultaneous detection and differentiation of influenza types A and B. This test is speedy--offering results in 15 minutes--accurate, and easy to use, allowing treatment and care to be initiated at the earliest opportunity while providing valuable information for epidemiology and reporting purposes. The test can be used with several specimen and transport media options.

A rapid, latex agglutination test for the detection of rotavirus direct from fecal specimens is also available from Oxoid. The test is simple to perform, with easily visualized results available within minutes. Everything needed to carry out this accurate test is supplied in a convenient workstation.
