New software (version 1.02) is designed to ensure the safety, integrity of results, and operating efficiency of blood-bank analyzers.

Specifically, the software is designed for use with the AutoVue Innova analyzer and AutoVue Ultra analyzer, from Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Inc. (Raritan, NJ, USA). The new software promotes safety and security by allowing users to reactivate the auto-acceptance function. Internal and external data show that the software demonstrates optimal sensitivity and specificity.

With the new software, fewer results need to be manually reviewed by technicians before accepting and uploading to the laboratory information system (LIS). Also, a large number of samples with complex testing profiles can be processed more efficiently, allowing staff to perform other critical tasks, while full automation allows faster antibody identification. The software also allows partially used cassettes to be processed on the system without any waste of reagents, and it improves the management of cassettes in inventory.

The Ortho AutoVue Innova is a fully automated blood-bank analyzer, for use with Ortho's BioVue blood-typing cassette system. The Innova has been qualified for use with the entire menu of BioVue and associated reagent red blood cells to meet blood-bank testing needs.
