Lab Tests Online Honored by Award

A patient-education website for laboratory testing information called Lab Tests Online (www.labtestsonline.org) has been awarded the 2005 Outstanding Web Site award from the Web Marketing Association (WMA). Judges cited the site's strong concept and content, saying it has "an innovative message” and is "a great place on the Net.”

Lab Tests Online serves as a resource for laboratory test information for patients and their families and is frequently updated with new information. Busy medical professionals also use the site for quick reference. The site currently describes more than 200 tests and provides insights into a range of related laboratory topics, including screening recommendations, reference ranges, and genetic testing. The content is reviewed and approved by a panel of laboratory professionals from 15 laboratory organizations. The site was launched in 2001 by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC, Washington, DC, USA).

A version of Lab Tests Online adapted to the United Kingdom was launched there in 2004 (www.labtestsonline.org.uk). Translated versions are being developed in German, Italian, and Spanish.

WMA was founded to help set a high standard for Internet marketing and web development. More than 2,100 sites from 33 countries entered this year's competition. Judges evaluated the sites on seven criteria: design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting, and ease of use.
