Slides for Measuring HDL Cholesterol

New slides are used to quantitatively measure high-density lipoprotein (HDL) concentration in serum and plasma.

The Vitros dHDL slide is a rapid, single-step, completely automated random access test that requires no sample pre-treatment. Test results are available in less than six minutes on 10 µl of serum or plasma. The test is performed in a single step versus traditional dHDL assays that require multiple steps. The slide was developed by Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics (Raritan, NJ, USA).

The dHDL slide combines high-quality analytic performance with the ease of use customers have come to rely on when using the Vitros chemistry system, states the company. The unique slide structure features three separate mechanisms to improve HDL concentration specificity. The slide assay is certified by the Lipid Standardization Program for manufacturers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Atlanta, GA, USA), and compares very favorably with the Cholesterol Reference Method Laboratory Network (CRMLN) and with the Dextran Sulfate Reference Method.

The dHDL slide is designed to improve specificity versus common interferents such as tryglycerides, low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, hemoglobin, total protein, and a number of commonly prescribed medications, over the concentration range often seen in laboratory populations. The dHDL slide will be available for use on the Vitros 250, 350, 950, and 5.1 chemistry systems of Ortho-Clinical.
