Assay for Monitoring Pancreatic Cancer

A new assay measures the 1116-NS-19-9 defined antigen in human serum or plasma, and the results can be used to monitor the status of patients with pancreatic cancer.

Designed for use on the Vitros ECi and ECiQ immunodiagnostic systems, the CA19-9 assay was developed by Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics (Raritan, NJ, USA). According to published literature, steadily increasing CA 19-9 assay levels may be correlated with ineffective therapy and progressive malignancy, while decreasing levels may indicate a response to effective therapy.

The Vitros CA 19-9 assay represents a further expansion of Ortho-Clinical's immunoassay oncology menu. It is performed using the CA 19-9 reagent pack and calibrators. The assay sample requires only 35 µl. The regeant is stable on-board the immunodiagnostic systems for up to eight weeks with calibration stability up to 28 days. The assay range is 0-1000/µl, which helps minimize unnecessary dilutions and repeats. The assay displays excellent precision across the entire CA 19-9 range, according to Ortho-Clinical. Performance is integrated with the operational advantages of an easy-to-use, continuous, random-access system, which allows for rapid result reporting, enhancing the service to doctors and their patients.

The immunodiagnostic system uses proprietary enhanced chemiluminescence detection technology, which provides good assay performance, including wide dynamic ranges, precision, and sensitivity. The ECi and ECiQ systems also use Intellicheck technology to verify diagnostic checks throughout automated sample and assay processing, which increases the integrity and security of patient results.
