Petri Dish Filler Saves Time, Personnel

A compact, automated Petri dish filler, which requires minimal bench space in the laboratory, can fill up to 540 plates at the push of a button.

All functions of the Petri dish filler can be controlled over its graphic surface interface, and once the process has started, the unit is designed to work in the absence of an operator. The dishes are mechanically guided within the system and monitored by a set of sensors. Variations in size or shape of plastic dishes are easily handled by the unit. Called Mediajet, the Petri dish filler was recently launched by Integra Biosciences (Chur, Switzerland)

The surface of the filling chamber is manufactured from a single piece of resistant polyethylene (PE), which allows convenient and efficient cleaning. The Mediajet is equipped with an ultraviolet (UV) lamp extending over the full length of the rotor where the dishes are opened during the dispensing process. The powerful UV radiation is highly bactericidal in the area most vulnerable to contamination.

The Mediajet has a built-in agar spread function, which helps minimize the agar level in the dishes and significantly reduces media costs. An optional printer module enables plates to be labeled, resulting in consistent product traceability.
