Handheld Spectrometer Enables Field Analysis

A handheld, near infrared digital transform spectrometer analyzer enables chemical analysis in the field at low cost.

The Phazir spectrometer was launched by Polychromix (Wilmington, MA, USA), a developer of innovative material analysis, chemical sensing, and spectroscopy solutions. Combining a digital transform spectrometer (DTS) engine, its light source, reference probe, rechargeable batteries, integrated computer, and liquid crystal display (LCD) into one unit, the Phazir can be used remotely, such as in field applications. The DTS family is powered by telecommunication microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology.

The DTS devices are currently targeted at general purpose spectroscopy applications. The Phazir is fully integrated with software that can be configured to specific applications. As a fully programmable solution, both can be configured to operate in various scanning modes. This flexibility enables the user to configure the device optimally to a broad set of applications. Polychromix also offers services to allow for specific chemometric model development for individual applications.
