Biotrin (Dublin, Ireland) has announced an agreement with BD Biosciences (San Jose, CA, USA), a segment of Becton, Dickerson and Company, for the distribution of Biotrin's biomarker range of products for the detection of early organ damage. Under the terms of the contract, BD Biosciences has been appointed world-wide distributor of the biomarker range to pharmaceutical companies, contract-research organizations, universities, and research centers.Posted on 07 Apr 2006
Using its proprietary Histomics technology, Biotrin identifies and selects biomarkers that allow researchers to determine the exact location and amount of damage an organ has undergone. In addition, the biomarkers help to monitor the progression of damage, which is either caused by disease or the administration of toxic compounds. Biotrin biomarkers have been on the market for several years and the number of products in the range continues to grow.
Biotrin produces tests for human Parovirus B 19, which can cause miscarriage, as well as a number of respiratory virus tests. A number of new kidney damage biomarkers, including a marker that can detect very early kidney damage in diabetic patients, have been discovered using the Histomics approach. These tests are provided to the drug development industry for early detection of nephrotoxic compounds.
