Two Genome Kits Launched

Two new products simplify and accelerate the process of genomic DNA preparation and enable large quantities of DNA to be produced from minimal starting materials.Posted on 01 May 2006
The illustra GenomiPhi HY DNA amplification kit and the illustra GenomiPhi V2 DNA amplification kit, provide a quick and reliable method for genomic DNA stock replenishment, and for DNA preparation upstream of polymerase chain reaction (PCR), genotyping, array comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), and cloning applications. Designed by GE Healthcare (St Giles, UK), the kits use Phi 29 DNA polymerase technology, which is based on a simple isothermal method of whole genome amplification.
Both kits feature a simple process that requires only a waterbath or thermocycler, and both can be used with common automation instrumentation. The GenomiPhi HY kit is a new product for midi-scale DNA preparation, combining high DNA yield (50 µg) with fast reaction time (less than four hours), and provides high reproducibility and less hands-on time. The GenomiPhi V2 kit replaces GE Healthcare's original GenomiPhi kit for small-scale DNA preparation, providing shorter reaction times (90 minutes versus overnight) with reduced background amplification.
"The new illustra GenomiPhi kits demonstrate a reduction in reaction time relative to the earlier version of the kit and other competitive offerings. This will allow researchers to complete genomic DNA preparation and downstream application analysis within the same working day,” stated Lucy Sha, marketing director for gene and protein amplification and expression at GE Healthcare. "The illustra GenomiPhi kits will allow researchers to generate micrograms of amplified product from nanogram amounts of input DNA, which helps researchers save time and money by eliminating the need to go back to source material for DNA stock replenishment, and simplifies the process of genomic DNA preparation for disease-association studies.”
