The modular optical bench design of the Olympus (Hamburg, Germany) Scan^R screening station for life science, allows users to adapt the system to specific applications of research and development (R&D) labs and to multi-user environments. Scan^R can handle different sample formats, including multi-well plates, slides, and custom-built arrays. The analysis module for biologic functioning assays enables assay development and high-content screening. The comprehensive image analysis and advanced data evaluation tools make possible a wide range of assays including gene expression, translocation, and cell lysis.
Fixed and live cells are handled with ease, tracking changes with time and enabling users to see the end-point of an assay. The Scan^R incorporates software and hardware modules controlled by an easy-to-use interface. Providing precise control of the microscope, focus, image display, as well as dedicated file and folder storage, the system produces six-dimensional images. A comprehensive set of cytometry-orientated modules automatically analyzes these images, providing full image processing, object and sub-object detection, parameter calculation, as well as sophisticated gating and analysis logarithms. Additional components can be added to scan^R to extend the functionality of the screening station.
