A urine chemistry analyzer has been launched that provides low-cost, automated urinalysis for point-of-care testing.Posted on 27 Jun 2006
Urine analysis provides important markers to detect early stages of many disease states such as diabetes, kidney disease, and urinary tract infections. Clinitek Status is the latest addition to the range of Bayer Diagnostics' (Terrytown, NY, USA) urine analysis products. Designed to integrate with both point-of-care and laboratory workflow, Clinitek Status improves urine testing reliability while minimizing the "hands-on” testing time typically required when visually reading urine reagent test strips.
In conjunction with the launch of the analyzer, Bayer Diagnostics has also released Clinitest Status hCG, an automated, rapid, and highly-sensitive test for the determination of pregnancy.
The Clinitek Status analyzer offers medical professionals, through an easy-to-use touch screen display, the ability to record patient information and operator identification. It also offers a 200-test result memory with result printouts. The Clinitek Status is compatible with a wide range of Bayer HealthCare's Multistix urine test strips.
"When the Clinitek Status first came out everybody wanted one,” said Jan Still, point-of-care testing manager for West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust (UK). "The big attraction for staff is the ability to perform both types of test on a single ‘walk away' instrument which is not only designed to save time but also prints our results which are unequivocal.”
