Benchtop System Dispenses Low Volumes with High Precision

A complete high-throughput system for low volume, high-precision pipetting can perform a 1536-well plate dispense in less than eight seconds with the complete aspirate/dispense cycle time of 30 seconds.

The 16-channel Nanodrop Express, a fast benchtop system produced by Innovadyne Technologies (Santa Rosa, CA.USA), has a two-plate stage and interchangeable 1 x 16 or 2 x 8 tip heads specialized for reagent dispensing and sample transfer. Based on Nanodrop fluidics, the instrument combines the advantages of non-contact solenoid-based technology (high-precision miniaturized assays) with the robustness and flexibility of traditional liquid handlers.

The flow-regulating solenoids are isolated from the valve-free flow path and are only exposed to de-ionized water. In addition to dramatically improving robustness, i.e., valve life measured in years, the system design enables repetitive, precise, low-volume dispensing of difficult samples like beads, cells, and highly viscous mixtures. Other non-contact liquid handlers use a flow-through design where the reagents pass through the internal path of a solenoid valve, quickly leading to deposits, obstructions, and seal wear. Consequently they work for a limited time, and soon result in costly valve replacement, hard-to-diagnose performance deterioration, and instrument downtime.

Innovadyne also produces a 96-channel platemaker instrument. The instrument's independent 96-tip and eight-tip heads can access plates of various heights in five robot-accessible plate positions. Five hundred nanoliters can be transferred from four 96-well plates to a 384-well plate in less than four minutes. The platemaker offers maximum throughput for high throughput screening (HTS) and genomic applications.
