Requiring no capital investment and minimal training, the Dupont lateral flow system Salmonella test kit produced by Oxoid (Basingstoke, UK) is suitable for both large and small laboratories. The specifically designed primary enrichment medium facilitates the recovery of sub-lethally injured and healthy cells in only five hours. Samples are ready to be tested, following a standard secondary enrichment phase, in just 24 hours.
The test strip is placed in a small aliquot of the enrichment broth, the sample migrates along the test strip and, within 10 minutes, the result can be read. A control line demonstrates that the test has performed correctly and the appearance of a second test line indicates a positive result.
The Dupont lateral flow system range includes products for the detection of Listeria and Escherichia coli O157, and complements the Oxoid DuPont Qualicon Bax system for detecting pathogens, including fungi.
