PCR Pipetting Workstation Offers Reliable Amplifications

An automated polymerase chain reaction (PCR) set-up pipetting workstation is suitable for high-throughput and low-volume applications. Highly reproducible PCR amplifications can be achieved with no detectable cross-contamination at reaction volumes as low as 1 µl.

Aurora Biomed (Vancouver, Canada) developed the Versa workstation, which processes a high number of PCR reactions and is configured to provide high levels of reliability and standardization by eliminating repetitive reaction setup, liquid handling tasks, and variations due to handling errors.

The system can handle 1,000 PCR reaction settings per day. Delivery is fast, contact-free, and accurate. It has a true aspirate and dispensing capability, and a user-friendly interface. The process is hands-free and is compatible with micro-fuge tubes, as well as 96- and 384-well plates. The workstation features one robotic arm for liquid handling with a single-channel dual syringe pipettor module equipped with a tip changer, to generate a series of PCR reaction set-ups ranging from l-1,000 µl.

The Versa workstation comes pre-installed with PCR set-up software that can perform most common pipetting routines, including master-mix preparation, reagent additions, and plate-to-plate primer/DNA transfers. This user-friendly Windows-based software guides the user through both the robot set-up and the program with simple on-screen prompts and drop-down menus.

The integrated tip changer and autoclavable tubes and parts eliminate any form of cross-contamination. The Versa workstation can be easily integrated with accessory instruments such as orbital shakers, incubators, micro-plate readers, and heat blocks. Weighing only 28 kg, the workstation has a very small footprint and takes up very little laboratory space.
