Diluter Improves Test Accuracy and Traceability

A new programmable gravimetric diluter reduces lab technicians' workload while improving accuracy and traceability.

The compact unit is designed to accurately deliver diluent to solid test samples in order to meet an operator-programmed dilution ratio. Dilutions of 1:2 to 1:99 can be achieved with an accuracy of 0.1 g for initial sample weighing and more than 99% for liquid mass dispensing. The unit is constructed from stainless steel and has a smooth, "wipe clean” touch keypad and display screen. All operations are controlled by a microprocessor with diluent addition by means of a peristaltic pump delivering 250 ml in less than 20 seconds. Sample weight, total weight, dilution factor, and identification can be downloaded for printer output.

Called the Baby Gravimat, the unit was developed by Interscience (St. Nom, France). It offers a quick, convenient, accurate, and economical way to deal with sample dilution prior to homogenization for analysis. The weight of the initial sample and dilution are recorded by the weighing cell. When a new solid sample is used, the mass of required diluent is automatically added via a peristaltic pump.

Calibrated to automatically repeat and reproduce precise dilutions of a series of solid samples, the Baby Gravimat allows lab workers to use microbiologic testing procedures to analyze bacteria in food samples.
