New automation and detection systems have been developed for clinical diagnostic applications.

The new HydroFlex platform, capable of automated plate washing and vacuum filtration for a range of 96-well format applications, was developed by Tecan (Zurich, Switzerland). This platform as well as the new Freedom Evo with pressure-monitored pipetting (PMP) were introduced at Medica 2006 in Dusseldorf (Germany) in November 2006.

In addition, Tecan has developed the Te-PoolSafe pooling option, operated by the new Freedom Evoware sample-oriented software. The Freedom Evo 75 with the RoMa robotic manipulator arm and Te-MagS magnetic bead separation module, designed for molecular diagnostic applications, such as nucleic acid extractions, were also on display at Medica.

The Infinite 200 modular microplate reader or filter-based microplate reader with eight selectable detection modes and optional injectors, and the latest Sunrise fast multi-channel absorbance reader with tuneable wavelength and temperature control option plate readers were introduced at Medica as well.

Tecan is a company specializing in the development, production, and distribution of advanced automation solutions for pharma and academic research, diagnostics, food and veterinary research, as well as forensics. Tecan clients are diagnostic laboratories, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and university research departments.
