A new tissue processor is a fully enclosed, stand-alone system that provides automated processing. Designed for routine clinical histopathology, it is an innovative, smart processor for paraffin infiltration of up to 300 standard tissue cassettes.

Incorporating remote, contact-free fill and drain of reagents, the ASP300 S offers superior process control, an active paraffin cleaning cycle, and an improved reagent bottle and cabinet design, which are just a few of the features that ensure optimum specimen quality. The enhanced reagent-management system provides a consistently high sample quality with optimized reagent use. A compatibility-check algorithm avoids the cross contamination of incompatible reagents and assures a high level of safety and reliability. This extends the lifetime of the reagents and improves the sample quality.

The ASP300 S is produced by Leica Microsystems (Wetzlar, Germany) and is a significant improvement of Leica's ASP300. The overall focus of the design was to improve critical performance criteria like sample quality, process and operator safety, reagent carry-over and consumption, instrument up-time, and lifetime cost.

The Leica ASP300 S software allows immediate access to the various programs and guides the operator safely and smoothly through the system. Frequently used programs can be defined as "favorites.” A variety of smart features make the ASP300 S one of the most reliable and efficient instruments available for tissue processing. A context-sensitive, online help feature supports the operator in routine tasks and answers the most commonly asked questions about the use of the Leica ASP300 S. Operation is made very easy via a solvent-resistant color touch-screen.

The reagent management system assists the user in achieving the laboratory-quality target. All important data from each process are logged in a data file and can be printed out or downloaded on a disk. Context-sensitive help is available on-line to provide the necessary answers.

Functional features such as the optical level sensor system, a single-handed retort safety lock, the unique bottle clamping principle, an active wax clean, and fume extraction enhance both the performance and safety of the instrument.
