The Razor system is battery powered and easy to use. It is capable of performing DNA-based pathogen detection in 30 minutes. It utilizes a new real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) plastic freeze-dried reagent format where samples are loaded with syringes into cartridges for ease-of-use. It is an ideal bio defense platform for first responders and military performing presumptive pathogen testing for anthrax, ricin, and other biothreats.
Developed by Idaho Technology (Salt Lake City, UT, USA) the Razor system can operate in the most extreme environments and is designed to move pathogen detection closer to the crises. Its small, field-hardened design and simple sample preparation makes it the ideal instrument for pathogen detection for military and homeland defense personnel. It is capable of analyzing up to 12 100 µl samples in less than 30 minutes. The sample preparation is simple; it has a push button user interface, and is operated by rechargeable batteries.
The Razor has been added to the approved product list for U.S. Homeland Security.
