Test Kits Detect Mosquito Borne Diseases

As the mosquito season begins in different parts of the world, the demand for diagnostic test kits that detect mosquito-borne diseases is increasing.

The diagnostic test division of Medical Services International, Inc. (Edmonton, Canada) was created in response to a worldwide demand for less costly, rapid, technically simplified test methods to test for infectious diseases. The company developed its VScan rapid test kits for the detection of HIV 1 and 2, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, dengue fever, and West Nile virus. The company is currently in negotiations with healthcare concerns to supply these tests to the worldwide market. Recently, the diagnostic division has been expanded to now offer test kits for sexual transmitted diseases (STDs) and for the initial detection of cancer. The STD kit tests are for syphilis and the cancer kit tests for prostate cancer. Other kits are under development.

To date, the VScan rapid human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) test kit has been approved in countries in South East Asia, and South and Central America. As a result, the VScan HIV 1 and 2 rapid test kit is now approved for sale at all levels including retail in countries representing approximately 40% of the world population.

Based on initial discussions with distributors, it appears that the company will supply in excess of 800,000 VScan test kits that detect mosquito-borne diseases during this mosquito season.
