Integrated Workstation Combines Immunoassay Testing and Clinical Chemistry

The closed-tube aliquotting (CTA) platform serves as a single point of entry for the integrated system. Samples are automatically aliquoted and routed through immunologic and chemical test platforms without the need to split samples or cap and re-cap tubes. Integrated systems, such as Beckman Coulter's (Fullerton, CA, USA) new DxC 880i Synchron Access Clinical System, provide consolidation of chemistry and immunoassay testing to improve turnaround times and lab efficiency; identical reagents and consistent results in the Unicel family of instruments; system software that is similar across all testing platforms; and common data management to organize and track information.
The DxC 880 and DxI 800 already exist as stand-alone analyzers for clinical chemistry testing and immunoassays respectively. When combined by the addition of the CTA platform, they become the integrated overall unit called the DxC 880i. Laboratories currently using DxC 800 and DxI 800 will be able to upgrade the analyzers to the DxC 880i in 2008.
The DxC 880i was launched at the EuroMedLab conference in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) in June 2007. The instrument was developed for high-throughput laboratories. More cross-platform configurations are being developed.
