System Monitors Laboratory Environmental Security

A new remote monitoring system provides 24-hour environmental security for laboratories, safeguarding critical tests, specimens, samples, and even laboratory animals against sudden changes in environmental conditions.

Called Sensaphone 2000, the system monitors analytical and test equipment, blood banks, tissue storage facilities, and other research sites for dangerous deviations in temperature and liquid nitrogen levels, as well as power failures and pressure variations. When deviations are detected, the system immediately begins dialing pre-programmed phone, fax, and pager numbers, alerting laboratory staff, security guards, and others to the problem. For further safety, the system is equipped with back-up batteries to keep equipment running for up to 24 hours after a power failure occurs. Sound-level monitoring also detects smoke, fire, and intrusion alarms. Sensaphone is the product of Phonetics, Inc. (Aston, PAS, USA).
