Breast cancer screening in women with dense breast tissue remains challenging because density can obscure lesions on mammography and is linked to higher cancer risk. Large, multi-site breast programs also need standardized acquisition and remote reading to keep workflows efficient while expanding access. A new system has launched that pairs an updated automated breast ultrasound platform with a zero-footprint enterprise viewer to support these needs.
GE HealthCare has introduced Invenia Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) Prime alongside ABUS StreamVue, expanding its breast imaging portfolio for supplemental screening in dense breasts. Announced on August 3, 2026, the offering is designed to help programs standardize three-dimensional ultrasound acquisition, enable remote exam review, and simplify deployment across multi-site networks. Among the first U.S. installations is at BeSound in Los Angeles, which aims to expand access to supplemental screening and is planning a mobile screening unit.
Invenia ABUS Prime automates breast ultrasound acquisition and integrates cSound Imageformer with artificial intelligence-enabled Scan Quality Assessment and Auto Nipple Detection, developed to support consistent, reproducible, high-quality scans. A new-generation Reverse Curve transducer and selectable compression levels are intended to enhance patient comfort and personalize exams, while a Fast Scan tool increases scan speed by up to 40% compared to Invenia ABUS 2.0. Reading is supported by QVCAD; studies cited by the developer report a 33% reduction in reading time and up to 93% sensitivity for lesion detection. Used alongside mammography, the system supports earlier cancer detection.
ABUS StreamVue is a zero-footprint, browser-based reading solution built to standardize ABUS exam review with remote access across enterprise imaging networks and high-volume breast centers. The viewer features adaptable licensing intended to simplify installation, maintenance, and growth, and is offered in collaboration with Candelis, Inc. Together with Invenia ABUS Prime, the platform is positioned to facilitate faster reads, remote reading, and easier cross-site comparisons while assisting information technology teams with enterprise management.
Multiple studies cited by the developer note that approximately 40% of women have dense breasts, that density confers a four- to six-fold higher cancer risk, and that mammography may miss one-third of cancers in dense breasts. Additional findings from the BRAID study indicate automated breast ultrasound demonstrated higher acceptance and a more positive patient experience compared to certain contrast-enhanced techniques. These data points underpin the system’s focus on standardized acquisition and enterprise-wide review for dense-breast screening programs.
