Test Based on Antibodies Specific to Colon Cancer

Researchers say data suggest the presence of antibodies specific to colon cancer circulating in colon cancer patients, strengthening the clinical validation of a new blood-based colon cancer screening test in development.

The colon cancer test is being developed by Amplistar, Inc. (Winston-Salem, NC, USA), a post-genomics company focused on identifying antibody targets for the early detection and treatment of cancer. The company, which has also developed a screening test for ovarian cancer, utilizes both genomic and functional genomic information to validate its targets. Amplistar believes its anticancer antibody tests will overcome the clinical, technical, and economic challenges of cancer screening by identifying early, cancer-specific targets, thereby greatly enhancing clinical specificity and sensitivity.

"By providing a simple low-cost reliable blood-based test which patients will not be reluctant to undergo, we expect to overcome the barrier of noncompliance which currently prevents the implementation of routine screening on a wide-scale basis,” said Eric Button, CEO of Amplistar.
