LifePoint Receives Patent on Saliva Testing

LifePoint has developed a diagnostic test system for the simultaneous detection of drugs of abuse and alcohol. (Ontario, CA, USA), which has developed diagnostic tests that provide blood-comparable results from saliva analysis.

Previously, LifePoint developed and patented capabilities for the quick, easy, and noninvasive collection of saliva. When used with the company's patented flow immunoassay, this collection method is designed to provide rapid, accurate, on-site quantifiable results. The results mirror the levels of a variety of blood components, including drugs in many concentrations. In some situations, however, a component's correlation to an exact blood-comparable level is influenced by pH. When testing for such components in saliva, simultaneous measurement of the pH can help provide an accurate calculation of the corresponding level in the donor's blood. This ability to derive the blood concentration of an analyte by measuring both the saliva drug level and the saliva pH provides blood-comparable results without collecting blood.
