New Diagnostics Cartridges for POC System

A new point-of-care (POC) diagnostics cartridge now delivers glucose and electrolyte (sodium, potassium, chloride) results directly to doctors.

The cartridge, called GL, is designed for use with the Irma POC system. Another cartridge, H4, which measures sodium, potassium, chloride, BUN/urea and hematocrit, now has an extended measurement range for BUN (3-150 mg/dl). Also, the H3, CC, and BG cartridges have a longer shelf life. New software for the Irma system enables use of the new GL and H4 cartridges. The software also provides the ability to report results for either BUN or urea nitrogen, improves quality control, and extends operating range temperature from 15 to 12O C to accommodate use in colder environments.

Irma is the product of Diametrics Medical, Inc., but is distributed exclusively by Philips Medical Systems (Best, The Netherlands). Configuration settings can be transferred to multiple Irma instruments easily and efficiently using DeviceSet, a new PC software tool available from Philips.

"Such improvements increase utility and add greater flexibility to customers' inventory management,” said David Rowe, product manager, Irma and the blood analysis portal, Philips Medical Systems.
