A new rapid test for E coli O157 is designed to detect deadly bacteria in foods. It offers several advantages over current tests including room-temperature storage, no sample boiling, and faster, easier-to-read test strips.Posted on 20 Sep 2002
Using the one-step test, called RapidChek, laboratorians can perform sample enrichment in as little as eight hours. The test has earned Performance Tested Certification from the AOAC Research Institute (www.aoac.org). AOAC validated the use of RapidChek E coli lateral flow test cassette for use in boneless beef, ground beef, and apple cider. The test kit was developed by Strategic Diagnostics, Inc. (SDI, Newark, DE, USA).
"We have already initiated third-party evaluations at several meat-processing rfacilities and testing laboratories and the results are very encouraging. They have found the RapidChek test cassette to be faster and easier to interpret than other products on the market,” said Richard C. Birkmeyer, president and CEO of SDI.
